The Old Man of Storr is an iconic spot on the Isle of Skye. The rugged landscape is almost alienesque; it could be backdrop for a Dr. Who or Star Trek episode. The pinnacle of rock that is the Old Man looks deceptively sculpted, like one of Obelix's obelisks, but the forces that have worked this rock are purely natural. A spot where the slow forces of nature can be felt. The Gaelic alternative name for the 'The Old Man of Storr' is Am Fiacaill Stòrach, which means 'the buck tooth'. The Storr, the hill on which The Old Man sits, is a Nordic name, meaning 'big'.
