It is quite humbling to be up-close and personal with rhino during capture, de-horning and translocation. However, nothing compares to seeing free and wild rhino in the veld (field). The hair stands up on the back of my neck on those rare occasions when, on my own, I stalk a white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) (camera in hand) to enjoy the privilege of proximity. It is a primeval experience and one that fewer will get the opportunity to experience if poaching continues at current rates.
